Volunteer Internship
Volunteer Opportunity
The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office Domestic Violence Program provides information and support to crime victims. Volunteers are trained to provide information on the court process, crime victim rights, community resources and safety planning.
District Attorney Carol Chambers says “Volunteering to be a victim advocate is a meaningful way to learn about the criminal justice system and help others in our community.”
Victim Advocates interact with and support victims of domestic violence. Some of their duties include interviewing victims to gain their perspective of the offense. Volunteers also provide resource referrals and explain the process to victims.
Volunteer training is approximately 20 hours and begins in January. Volunteers are asked to commit to one morning a week in either the county court in Arapahoe or Douglas County.

The District Attorney’s Office accepts qualified volunteers on an ongoing basis. We appreciate our community volunteers and college interns willing to contribute their time to learn more about the justice system.
Our volunteer program offers a wide variety of tasks that can be performed by citizens such as you. We have opportunities at all our branches including, Arapahoe Justice Center, Douglas Justice Center, Aurora Justice Center and Littleton Justice Center. Volunteer positions may be available in our Victim Assistance Program, Consumer Protection, Special Victims Unit, Juvenile Diversion Counseling Program or Juvenile Prosecution.
In addition, our office participates in the President’s Volunteer Service Award program. “We are extremely proud to recognize our most outstanding volunteers with the PRESIDENT’S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD,” said Carol Chambers, District Attorney. “The District Attorney volunteers are role models in our community, donating their time, energy and talent to bring us closer together as neighbors and a community. The AWARD is our way of thanking these volunteers and inspiring everyone in our community to make volunteering a central part of their lives.”
