Witness Protection / Relocation Program

While threats to witnesses are rare, they do occur. To protect crime victims and witnesses the State of Colorado developed a witness protection program. Created in 1995 and named the Javad Marshall-Fields and Vivian Wolfe (JMF&VW) Witness Protection Program in 2006, the purpose of the program is to protect and/or relocate threatened witnesses in high profile cases.
The JMF&VW Witness Protection program may temporarily cover the cost of housing, food, travel and security for witnesses as requested by local or state prosecutors. Unlike the federal witness protection program, this program is not a lifetime arrangement nor can the program assist in changing a person’s identity.

If you are threatened, intimidated, or asked not to testify because you are a witness in a criminal case you should report the incident to the police and then the District Attorney’s Office.

The JMF&VW Witness Protection Board is made up of the Attorney General, Executive Director of the Department of Public Safety, and the Executive Director of the Colorado District Attorneys’ Council or their respective designees.
