Bad Check Restitution Program

“Don’t Be A Victim of Bad Checks!”

Bad checks affect everyone in terms of higher consumer costs that must be passed on to offset losses, and increased taxes to cover the additional costs for law enforcement and prosecution. Millions of dollars are lost every year. Bad checks create negative consequences for both local merchants and individuals.

Under the direction of District Attorney George H. Brauchler, the Bad Check Restitution Program was put into place to assist local merchants with bad check losses in Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln Counties. The primary goal of the program is to obtain full restitution for the victims without creating unnecessary financial burdens to the criminal justice system.

The following information provides eligibility for the program, step by step instructions, checking screening guidelines, and helpful tips when accepting checks.
