The Fall Academy will meet Wednesdays 6-9 p.m. for seven weeks, Sept. 15 – Oct. 27. Sessions will be at the District Attorney’s Arapahoe office, 6450 S. Revere Parkway in Centennial, except for the last evening, which will be held in one of the courtrooms of the Arapahoe courthouse.

Participants will learn about the work done at the DA’s office, from the time a local law enforcement agency recommends charges through a jury trial, with everything that can happen in between. Sessions are led by our staff experts and include topics such as human trafficking, organized crime, cold cases and diversion. The first night will offer an overview of our office and the jurisdiction from District Attorney Kellner.

The Citizens Academy is free, but registration and a background check are required. The application is available on our website at www.da18.org/community-outreach/citizens-academy/ . The application deadline is Aug. 27, and participants will be notified of acceptance the week of Sept. 6.

“We are excited to be able to interact with the community as they learn about what we do,” Kellner said. “This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who wants to learn more about criminal justice in the largest judicial district in the state of Colorado.”

18th JD DA Spring Citizen’s Academy goes all-online

All of us are adapting in large and small ways to restrictions imposed because of the pandemic. We are upending rules and procedures and altering traditions.

The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Spring Citizen’s Academy was cancelled, and it won’t be rescheduled in its usual, in-person format. Instead, we will be offering a free, open-to-everyone Zoom presentation for 10 consecutive days starting Monday, April 20.

“In this time of uncertainty and upheaval, everyone is being asked to innovate and adapt. I am proud that my office was able to pivot quickly and put together something to offer folks as they are doing their part and staying at home,” said District Attorney George Brauchler. “This is not an exact replica of what we offer in person, but it’s adapted to the times and technologies now available. I am glad to make it accessible to a large swath of the community I represent, to give them the chance to learn more about what we do in the District Attorney’s Office.”

Participants can join a Zoom meeting every day for two weeks at 1 p.m. Presentations (listed below) will last about 30 minutes, with time for extra questions at the end.
